Living in the present?
Can’t really say. There is no self in the moment to describe it.
“The truth cannot be said…”
And, the mind is a flexible instrument, so here is an attempted
explanation.
Some ethnic tribes live in the moment. They do not store food —
for that is the future — which does not exist for them.
When they are put in prison they die. Their brain is not developed to
contact and reminisce the past, and they do not know how to think into a
possible future.
So even if they are in for a short sentence, to them, their jail cell is
for the rest of their life, and having no contact with the vibrations of
nature, they fade away.
We have a more complex and developed mind. And, although the mind is an
amazing instrument, it does have considerable restrictions.
The past.
Being no time, there is no past, but the mind gives that illusion.
No mind, no past. Although the mind records every single incident in
infinite detail, when we attempt to recall what we call the past,
it retrieves the details according to what we want — not necessarily
the way it actually happened.
And so it is with the future. The mind cannot accurately predict the
future — it can only guestimate by taking into consideration what it
perceives as past events.
Psychics have either been born, or have developed the facility to go
outside of the restrictions of the mind. The mind does not want you to
disconnect from it. It is there to keep you as safe as possible —
so it constantly refers to what it thinks are past dangers.
When in the moment, the mind is not in control. It is not the main event.
It may still be ticking over in the background, in case you need it, but
it is not running things. If disconnecting from the mind happens – then
there is a non-happening happening. Without the mind there is no time.
People who have had this realisation present different descriptions —
because it cannot be described from the mind or to the mind —
because the mind is restricted to only thinking in terms of time.
It is reported that when Jesus was asked what it is like in heaven he said:
“There is time no more.”
He is also quoted as saying: “Before Abraham was, I am.”
People who have a Satori in the Satori group say something similar:
“Time stands still.”
It is not that there is just this moment — there is no moment.
There is just isness.
It is like being in a brilliant Silver glow. Nothing that you can see, or
hear, or touch, or taste, it is something beyond these primitive senses.
Everything is brilliant, and glowing. The glowing is not always uniform.
Some things, and some people glow more than others — according to the
state of development at the time — but only on the outside.
On what we call the inside, every glow is the same.
Recalling the past, just for the sake of recalling the past, is not so
easy. Sometimes, what we call the past jumps in — usually when it is
appropriate. And with amazing detail. It is felt more than perceived.
A thought of a future holds no excitement — because there is no such
thing. For one thing, this moment is so fulfilling.
And another thing is that what we call the future is happening now.
Nothing ever happens in the future. Repeat: Nothing ever happens in the
future.
If it is happening, it is happening now.
What we call the future is just fantasy — based on the restrictions of
the past.
And if you think about it enough, and it is appropriate, it will happen.
And sometimes, if you have insisted too much, it will happen anyway.
“So be careful what you wish for.”
In the moment there is no strong feeling of a self. Life just flows.
And if the you is without conditions, flowing along just happens —
delightfully.
Meditation has been recommended to attain the state of no-self,
timelessness.
If the you is sitting to attain a state of no you then you will have
to sit for a very, very long time. How can the you go beyond being you —
especially through desire — which is a complaint about the present.
The awakening is realised when there is gratefulness and complete
unconditional acceptance of the moment.
Experiment with just sitting. Let the mind run, but do not follow the
thoughts. Not so easy as we are programmed and addicted to thinking.
Do not look for a stopping of the mind. Just disconnect from the actual
thinking. And don’t take it seriously —
Have fun…
